top 5 sunscreen for dark skin

It's that time of the year again when everyone has sunscreen on their radar (even though it should be year round). Getting your skin protected from the UVA/UVB rays are important. Most popular sunscreens are chemical and mineral. I prefer chemical sunscreens especially for olive to darker skin tones because mineral sunscreen are mostly powder form and they ALWAYS leave the ugly white cast around the face and changes the true color of our skin, in an unpleasant way. And that is why I always choose chemical SPF. I know at times people aren't sure what level of SPF to get so let me break it down for you, NEVER get anything that is lower than SPF 30 unless its in your makeup or moisturizer (which in my personal opinion, I think is ineffective if it's not the first 3 ingredients) and anything higher than SPF 55+ is just marking up in how much you are paying, for instance the difference between SPF 50 vs SPF 100 is 1% in the performance of protection. So save your money.

1. Supergoop Super Power Sunscreen Mousse

This is literally my favorite one at the moment. It's hydrating, good for all skin types, can be used as a moisturizer (that's what i use it for). It is formulated with nourishing Shea butter, antioxidant-packed blue sea kale, and a refreshing hint of cucumber and citrus. It's also very lightweight, I love the whipped texture of it and i love that a little goes a long way! Best of all this is a water resistance #spf50.

2. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist

I personally love this product for days when i want to glisten, when i'm showing legs and arms. It's non sticky nor is it greasy, I never use it on the face because it's a spray i don't want to ingest all of that. I simply add a bronzing color highlight where i want emphasized and spray this all over and because it's spf, once it sets in, it stays.

P.S. get the bottle with the full reach handle, it's amazing for hard to reach places like your back

3. Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen

I like to use this one as a primer before my makeup and after moisturizing. I apply it about 15-20 mins before my makeup application making sure it has sank into my skin and i love the gripping effect it gives to my makeup. A little bit of this goes a long way, applying too much would almost give you that silicon feeling and i personally don't like it. The formula glides on the skin providing shine control, leaving a velvety, makeup-gripping finish. Red algae helps protect against the harmful effects of Blue Light, the light from our phones and computers, while meadowfoam seed oil increases skin hydration for a more even skin texture, with or without makeup. and There's now a matte formular, which is great for someone like me because i do not like my skin to look dewy when i have makeup on!

4. Shiseido Sun Protection Lotion

This one was a surprise for when I first picked it up and swatched it in store, it almost just melted into my skin and I loved that it felt lightweight, wasn't streaky, didn't leave a white cast on me and wasn't thick like the previous ones I've tried from this brand. Now because i pride myself in honesty I will let you know that this specific one will break you out if you have sensitive skin, my skin could be problematic at times but I have not seen any signs of blemishes or breakouts since I have been using it, so take caution. People with drier skins types will particularly love this, and although I have oily skin, I mix this with a water based moisturizer and I have no problem with it. It's being advertised as a critical last step in any Japanese skincare routine, this transparent, fast-absorbing formula features Super Veil-UV 360 technology to provide even coverage. Ideal for outdoor activities or sports, the velvety finish also makes this sunscreen perfect for layering under makeup.

5. Algenist Sublime Defense

This just works. Out of all 5, this was the one I was sure I wouldn't like when swatching it store, but much like the Shiseido one i was surprised. The best way to apply this when the bottle is shaken up very well because i find that if it isn't there will be a white cast over where it's applied. It scared me at first because upon seeing it, it was just stark white and as a dark skinned person i was not even gonna give it a chance but when I swatched it I saw that I had nothing to worry about. I mix this with my actual foundation (during the summer only) and just apply my foundation as i normally do. This is being advertised as fast-absorbing, ultra-lightweight fluid providing daily protection against broad-spectrum UVA/UVB damage. Alguronic Acid combines with antioxidant-rich botanicals and UVA/UVB protecting actives to delay signs of aging caused by sun and environmental stressors. This oil-free, sheer formula has a silky texture and weightless feel, designed to apply smoothly on top of other skin care products and under makeup for a soft, matte finish.
